How to Achieve Healthier Looking Skin

Women do not need to spend a fortune on their daily beauty routine in order to achieve a flawless complexion. There are alternative treatments that do not require a great deal of money, time or effort to achieve the same result. Simple steps taken in the comfort of your home can help women to achieve clear, healthy looking skin at a fraction of the cost.

Adequate Sleep

Seven to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep can aid the daily skin care regimen. Those who sleep properly are less likely to suffer from dark, puffy circles under their eyes. Adequate sleep can also help to improve a person’s memory, concentration and work performance.

Drink Plenty of Water

Water can do wonders for a person’s skin. People who do not drink enough water will be more likely to have blotchy, spotty skin, rather than a clear, blemish-free complexion. Train yourself to drink up to 2 litres of water each day. More water is required during exercise or on a hot day.

Try adding a twist of lemon or lime to the water for a more palatable drink. A good rule of thumb is to keep a full glass of water beside your desk at work, or taking a ½ litre bottle with you that can be refilled regularly throughout the day.

Use a Moisturizer

Spending a lot of money on the latest moisturizer to hit the shops will not guarantee a flawless complexion despite what the commercials or the manufacturer may claim. Choose a moisturizer that you are comfortable with and make sure you moisturize each morning and night and apply moisturizer under make-up.

Remove Make-up

Women who sleep with their make-up on will often wake up with spotty looking skin. The skin needs to breathe properly, and it cannot do that if the pores are clogged leaving the skin caked in yesterday’s make-up.

Reduce Over-Exposure to the Sun

The sun can be very invigorating, but it can also be hazardous to the skin if a person spends too much time in direct sunlight. It is best to stay out of direct sunlight between 11am-2:00pm, when the sun is at its hottest. During sun exposure, it is a good idea to apply plenty of sunscreen.

The higher the SPF (sun protection factor) the better sun protection will be provided. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sun glasses. Protection from the sun can help to prevent premature ageing, sun spots and wrinkles.

These are just a few easy ways to achieve healthier looking skin without spending a lot of money on the latest fad or beauty product to hit the market.
